While most of the old buildings are being demolished and new ones put in their place, some have turned into gorgeous, renovated and modern spaces that still maintain some nostalgia for what the building used to be.
Twenty years ago, in Wilkinson, Indiana, a family bought an old high school gym in hopes of renovating it into a one-family home. Now, it looks incredible. All their hard work paid off and they brought it to market.
Good news for us, because now we see what’s inside this wonderful renovation. Guess what, they kept half of the indoor basketball court intact.
1950’s gymnasium for sale in Indiana
Here are the details of Zillow’s list,
A rare opportunity for your high school gym. This is an honest treat with good. The former Wilkinson HS Gym had a 1/2 pitch with an original basketball goal and original maple flooring – approximately 5,984 square feet. A new living space with huge rooms has been added to the building’s credit in the last 20 years. New oven and deck north of half the gym in two years. It was intended as a commercial, now residential. It would make a great daycare or home for basketball fans. Cell phone tower rent is paid in full and may provide copies of the lease agreement. All building measurements and dimensions must be verified and approved by the buyer.
Photos of a renovated old gym for sale in Indiana
Beautiful location in the Indiana countryside.
You can see that half of the roof has been replaced.
Although it is quite low profile from the outside, the inside is stunning.
Most of the original gym floor and home floors remained.
Some floors were replaced, but the old rafters remained.
The house is filled with plenty of modern spaces to move around. If you’ve always wanted bigger bathrooms, this is the home for you.
I love the insanely open concept of this home renovation. I’m so glad they didn’t try to build a bunch of unnecessary walls to break up the space.
They built an upper floor of four huge bedrooms.
Look, I told you. The living space is enormous.
My favorite part is putting the kitchen in the free throw space. perfect. Leave the lines, genius.
The original gym floor lines perfectly blend old and new.
The other half of the gym is still in all its glory. Look at the extra space above the gym. The possibilities are endless.
A view from the corner of the gym shows how much can be done in the space. I would give anything to have this kind of space to hold dance and theater lessons, workshops and productions. But that’s just me. very funny
The sale of this totally unique and gorgeous home is on hold, but at least we got a chance to peek into a piece of Indiana sports history that’s becoming new again.
