An Indiana family transforms an old gymnasium into an open concept home

It’s such a waste when you’re driving past old buildings that are no longer in use. If you’re like me, you can think of some really good uses for them. All it takes is someone with the time and money to give the building a good dose of TLC.

While most of the old buildings are being demolished and new ones put in their place, some have turned into gorgeous, renovated and modern spaces that still maintain some nostalgia for what the building used to be.

Twenty years ago, in Wilkinson, Indiana, a family bought an old high school gym in hopes of renovating it into a one-family home. Now, it looks incredible. All their hard work paid off and they brought it to market.

Good news for us, because now we see what’s inside this wonderful renovation. Guess what, they kept half of the indoor basketball court intact.

Although it is quite low profile from the outside, the inside is stunning.

The house is filled with plenty of modern spaces to move around. If you’ve always wanted bigger bathrooms, this is the home for you.

I love the insanely open concept of this home renovation. I’m so glad they didn’t try to build a bunch of unnecessary walls to break up the space.

My favorite part is putting the kitchen in the free throw space. perfect. Leave the lines, genius.

The other half of the gym is still in all its glory. Look at the extra space above the gym. The possibilities are endless.

A view from the corner of the gym shows how much can be done in the space. I would give anything to have this kind of space to hold dance and theater lessons, workshops and productions. But that’s just me. very funny

The sale of this totally unique and gorgeous home is on hold, but at least we got a chance to peek into a piece of Indiana sports history that’s becoming new again.
