In this episode of In The Know: Find My Dream Room, host Will Taylor (brightbazaar) helps Daria get out of her mother’s house and find her own place in New York City. Derya is looking for a one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment with plenty of natural light in Manhattan or the Bronx for $2,500 per month. Can you help Daria find her perfect apartment? Let’s find out!
Apartment Number One, which Will dubbed “Manhattan,” is a two-bedroom unit in Manhattan with a monthly rent of $2,500. The cozy apartment not only has a washer, dryer and dishwasher in the unit, but also has a fireplace! While the apartment has more bedrooms than Drea requested, Will notes that one of the bedrooms could easily be converted into a living room. Swinging through the comforts of the apartment, Drea especially loves the natural light pouring in through the windows.
Next, Will shows Drea “The Harlem,” a one-bedroom unit in Harlem that is renting for $2,400 a month. While the apartment is slightly smaller than a Manhattan, it does offer central air conditioning, an elevator in the building, and a beautiful view of a tree-lined patio. Drea notes that the apartment feels “perfect for one,” and loves that it feels more open and modern than “Manhattan.”
Finally, Will gives Drea a tour of “The Bronx,” a one-bedroom unit in the Bronx that rents for $2,400. Drea was immediately impressed by the spacious unit and huge open plan living space. She also loves the stainless steel appliances, the in-unit washer and dryer, and the spacious bedroom. While the apartment is on the lower level and offers a little less light, Drea seems to feel that its spaciousness makes up for its lack of sunlight.
Three weeks later, Drea revealed that she has decided to postpone her move for now. While I was impressed with the apartments, I felt the time to move was not quite right. “I had a great time shopping with Will,” she says. “He showed me a lot of great options, so whenever I’m ready to move again, we’ll see, who knows where I end up.”
