Text description provided by the architects. Eugen, an important concept of traditional Japanese aesthetics, is an expression of the depth, of the untranslatable, of the incomprehensible and abstraction that moves from philosophy to art. By contrasting the shade with the periods of light produced by the windows and the luminous surface of the kitchen, by the hidden landscapes that finally reveal themselves, Casa Eugene offers a non-verbal invitation to a space where one can glimpse the beauty of the mystery of the universe and our human condition. At the entrance, the curved wall of the entrance hall forms, both in form and color, an infinite “plane” on the concave side, which hides the landscape before it is revealed.

In the scheme or when viewed from within the surroundings, it creates a central axis that opens the social area without corners in an organic way. The water mirror in front of the tall windows reflects the large bonsai tree that appears to be floating and the daytime sky. Texture and natural light vary significantly, creating a new landscape with textures of sun and water throughout the days. Spaces interact in all corners of the “L” plan. The unusual way in which André Gippi’s Ramona armchair has been positioned continues with the living room, while the living room opens to the waiting room and kitchen/dining room. Dark walls embracing the environment frame the lighted windows, the painting by Rubens Ostrom, the kitchen, the furniture, the decor, the floor and the ceiling, “Heaven and Earth.” chiaroscuro is a resource that plays with the concept of ‘Yugen’, in which elements are highlighted, hidden and imitated on surfaces, in a way that plays with the heroism of the pieces; In the living room, the sofa and coffee table blend in with the rug that blends into the floor. The dark bookcase, in the way it is composed, mimics the horizon of the opposite wall, with inverted books, “hidden knowledge”, and water also found in the bar and in the work “Ponta do Coral I” by Alessandro Gruetzmacher.

The “false rubber tree” plant, relatively large for an indoor space, serves as a physical and visual landmark between the living room and kitchen. The choice of oversized vegetation also plays with scales. In a concept always espoused by the architect where the natural and the architectural environment, the plants with the view from the window, natural light and lanterns should mutually enrich each other. The kitchen in pure white and white background, with translucent shelves lighting, evokes light from windows without them. Interspersed with Nile Quartz Island, organic and dark as a commonwealth set aside by the house and doing a job. It has a decathlon bowl and a drying rack that appears to be sculpted in size.
