Fisher to drive the Corvette Z06 70th Anniversary 2023

Sarah Fisher, former INDYCAR SERIES driver and owner, and still the fastest woman in Indianapolis 500 history, will drive the 2023 Corvette Z06 70th Anniversary Edition Pace Car to lead the field to the green flag for 106y Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, May 29 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Fisher of Ohio started “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” nine times between 2000 and 2010, a record for female drivers. Her fastest four-lap qualifying speed of 229,439 mph in 2002 remains a record for a female driver.

Fisher was also the first woman to win first place in a major North American open-wheel event, the INDYCAR SERIES in 2002 at Kentucky Speedway. She was also the first female driver to achieve third place in the IndyCar Series competition, taking third place in 2000 at Kentucky Speedway and second in 2001 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

After her driving career, Fisher switched to team ownership, giving two-time series champion Joseph Newgarden his first INDYCAR series ride. Since her team ownership role ended, she has remained involved in the sport by serving as a Pace Car driver at select NTT INDYCAR SERIES events.

She now owns with her husband, Andy O’Gara, the successful Speedway indoor karting facilities in Speedway, Indiana, and Daytona Beach, Florida, and is the mother of two.

“Every time I’ve had the opportunity to drive at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, it’s been special — from INDYCAR series cars to two-seaters to vintage cars,” Fisher said. “Driving a Pace Car is a special honor. Having served in this role at NTT INDYCAR SERIES since Johnny Rutherford’s retirement, I have had many wonderful memories to add to my career.

“I am humbled and proud to be the Official Pace Car Driver at the 106th Indianapolis 500 and to represent the hard work and development that Chevrolet has put into these amazing pieces of automotive and technology advancements.”

The Corvette Z06 2023 is powered by the all-new LT6 5.5-liter engine, which develops 670 horsepower, making it the most naturally aspirated V8 horsepower ever to hit the market in any production vehicle. The Indianapolis 500 Corvette Z06 Pace Car exudes confidence with its wide stance and exotic mid-engine proportions. This year’s Pace Car is equipped with the available Z07 Performance Package, which features a carbon-fiber rear spoiler, aerodynamic ground effects, carbon ceramic brakes and more, for maximum track-ability.

With a nod to the Corvette’s spanning 70 years of history, the Pace Car is a 2023, 70th Anniversary Z06 Edition, finished in a special Pearl Tri-Coat Metallic paint. Unique to this package on the production car and the Pace are the 70th Anniversary Edition exterior badges, including special Corvette crossflags, Edge Red brake calipers and 70th Anniversary Edition logo on the seats, steering wheel and sill panels.

Chevrolet’s performance design studio has created an asymmetric stripe package specifically for the Pace that takes inspiration from the Z06’s 70th Anniversary Edition badge on the door.

“The Chevrolet Team is proud to present the Indianapolis 500 for the 33rd time, while celebrating 70 years of Corvette production,” said Steve Majoros, Chevrolet Vice President of Marketing. “It is only fitting that the Indianapolis 500 will be the first race for the 2023 Corvette Z06, and it is a truly special moment for Corvette and Indycar fans around the world.”

Chevrolet and Corvette lead the field by more than any other manufacturer and nameplate, respectively. The 2022 race marks the 33rd time Chevrolet has accelerated its history dating back to 1948, and the 19th time since 1978 for America’s favorite sports car.

“Sarah Fisher is an Indianapolis 500 icon who always takes the time to appreciate her fans and represents Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the ‘greatest spectacle in racing’ with class and humility,” said J. Douglas Bowles, President of IMS. “She is a person fit for this honor, and it would be a great pleasure and privilege to see her lead the field of 33 cars to the green flag in front of a huge crowd at the track and a global television audience.

“I am sure Sarah will enjoy driving the 2023 Corvette Z06 70th Anniversary Edition, an amazing car with performance to match its great looks.”
