Hawaii Vacation Villas

For some of us, nothing says “vacation” quite like Hawaii. The best way to celebrate on the islands during the Christmas and New Year holidays is to gather the family or some like-minded friends and rent a villa. Too late? Maybe not. It’s late September, but there are still a bunch of places available. The four luxury villas I found are from Exotic Estates. They come with all the needed trimmings: luxurious open-plan interiors perfect for gatherings, state-of-the-art kitchens, pools, hot tubs, spacious lanais, easy beach access and great views of the Pacific Ocean.

Kelohana Police Station, Kauai

Kauai is the “Gardens Island,” a lush mountain hideaway with gorgeous beaches and private homes. Located in Poipu, in the Kukui’ula district, Kilohana Makai features an open plan living and kitchen equipped with Sub Zero to Bosch to Wolf appliances. The house accommodates eight guests in four bedrooms. The three bathrooms have a private indoor and outdoor lava rock shower. One of them has a free standing bathtub with sliding doors, there is also a half bath. It has a pool, outdoor dining table for 10, sofas, chaise longues, and a suspended daybed. Starting at $3,499 per night.

Turtle Cove, Maui

There’s a reason Maui is so popular, and this villa, called Turtle Cove, offers the best of the island. It is located on Napili Bay in West Maui and offers southern views of the Pacific Ocean and the outer islands of Moloka’i and Lana’i. It is an ideal place to witness the annual migration of humpback whales between December and May. There are three bedrooms with king beds and en suite bathrooms. There is also an accompanying suite with an office and a total of five bathrooms, and the property sleeps eight guests. A personal favorite, Napili Bay is an intimate beach perfect for turtle watching, hence the well-deserved name of the villa. At $4,500 a night.

Upcountry Estate, Big Island

The holidays are centered around large gatherings, and Upcountry Estate fits the bill. This 7,500-square-foot property is located in Kailua-Kona on the Big Island, on Makalei Estates, a gated community in the countryside above Kailua-Kona, on the slopes of Hualalai. Perched 1,110 feet above the coast on three acres, this Tuscan-inspired villa offers panoramic views of the Kona Coast. The main home has 20-foot-high vaulted ceilings, limestone floors, and appliances by Dacor Sub Zero and Miele. The house can accommodate 12 guests in six bedrooms and has seven bathrooms. There is a separate two-bedroom Ohana with one bathroom, a kitchenette, and sliding glass doors that open onto a private balcony overlooking the ocean. The kitchen/family room has an indoor/outdoor fireplace and pocket doors leading to the balcony, with a second kitchen, pool and spa. Starting at $10,500 per night.

Kanini Estate, Big Island

Kanini Estate is a 5,200-square-foot villa on two floors, with eight bedrooms that sleeps 16 guests. It has a setting overlooking the sheltered Waikoloa Anchialine Ponds with ocean views, pool and hot tub. It is located in the ocean front community of Waikoloa “Naupaka at Waikoloa”. The Estate is within walking distance of The Kings Shops, Queens Market, a world class golf course, the beautiful beach at Anaeho’omalu Bay and Lava Lava Beach Club. There is a gym complete with a treadmill, iFIT, Peloton, weights, and a games room. The upper floor has a second recreation area with a covered balcony and views. The house is designed for indoor/outdoor living, there is a barbecue, bar, fire pit and plenty of patio. Beach umbrellas, boogie boards and chairs are provided. The house is a three minute walk from the beach. From $18,500 per night.
