Lund, Sweden; Kansas City, Missouri; Austin, Texas; San Ramon, Calif., June 8, 2022 – PCs and InCoax Networks have teamed up and successfully provided high-speed, multi-gigabit connectivity to an affordable apartment complex in Pflugerville, a suburb of Austin, Texas. Stoneridge Apartments is a complex of 256 apartments spread across 13 buildings and in order to remain attractive to current and future tenants, it needs to ensure digital inclusion for families eligible for a lease in Stoneridge.
InCoax Networks & Computers for the People
By deploying fiber in every building and utilizing the existing and fully functional coaxial network, formerly used for satellite television, fiber-like broadband performance was provided to tenants. People’s PCs tasked with delivering high-speed community-wide and home wireless broadband to Stoneridge apartments on a budget need to look beyond traditional fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) deployments to solve the problem and partner with InCoax Networks. Initial calculations showed an average reduction in total in-building installation cost from $440 per apartment with fiber to $125 per apartment by reusing the existing coaxial cabling infrastructure at Stoneridge Apartments.
“Installing InCoax technology serves as a convenient and cost-effective solution to the global MDU broadband access challenge of how to deploy high-speed multi-gigabit fiber broadband,” said Helge Tiainen, Head of Marketing, Sales and Product Management at InCoax. “InCoax is pleased with the successful publication of work with PCs of people on behalf of Stoneridge Apartments. This deployment has improved the quality of daily life for tenants and demonstrated that re-use of existing coaxial infrastructure and MoCA Access™ can be a key complement to fiber in bringing gigabit and multi-gigabit networks to Any MDU”.
By partnering with PCs for People, Stoneridge Apartments now have symmetric high-speed Internet access of 1Gbps, thanks to PCs of the People implementation of InCoax Networks’ MoCA Access™ 2.5 Fiber Access System.
“We are impressed with the performance and how well the InCoax system provides a perfect fit with our mission to support digital inclusion and provide connectivity for all families regardless of income,” said Tom Iselman, People’s Executive Director. “Efforts like ours are necessary today, as it becomes increasingly difficult to operate in a society without the best possible technology and high-speed internet connection. I’m told that upgrading the building complex has had a remarkable effect on lowering the vacancy rate for apartments, which has fallen from 50% to less than 11%.” .
Incoming trunk fibers were connected to the 13 main buildings with individual fiber cables through a fiber switch. Controllers (DPUs) in each building have extended fiber to the apartments using the existing coaxial network to provide high-speed broadband to tenants.

Competition in the broadband market is fueling the need to push fiber deeper into the network and closer to the end user. Customer demand for fast broadband and the challenge for the operator to provide services cost-effectively with an FTTH-only strategy has generated interest in solutions that allow easier access within the premises. Deploying InCoax’s D2501 technology is a sustainable way for operators to upgrade their existing networks, with high-speed Internet services available in the home entertainment center in the apartment.
InCoax technology helps operators facilitate fast, cost-effective, and non-intrusive installations by extending fiber from the point of extension (FTTep). For more on FTTep, check out this animation (incoax.com/deployment/)
