Introducing Laird Design Lounge – News

Cambridge United is pleased to announce the renovation and renaming of the Executive Lounge to The Layrd Design Lounge…

Local commercial interior designers, Layrd Design and longtime partners Regent Construction worked in partnership with Cambridge United to renovate the executive lounge, boardroom and reception areas of the Abbey Stadium main stand.

The work, carried out days after last season’s final, was completed on the eve of the new 2022/23 campaign. The renovation includes a welcoming modern reception area with wood veneer and wood-effect vinyl floors.

This leads to the new Layrd Design Lounge which has been designed to define the identity and history of both the football club and the city of Cambridge. The new and improved guest lounge includes a purpose-built contemporary bar and simple, comfortable furniture with two new 55-inch sports screens.

The Board Room followed a similar design brief which resulted in the creation of a distinctive modern room to welcome visiting directors on match day, which will also be used as a meeting space for the weekly meetings.

Will Mays of Laird Design said: “It has been a pleasure to have the opportunity to create a bold new look for the executive hospitality areas at Cambridge United Football Club and to bring a Cambridge feel to the spaces as well. We hope all fans and guests enjoy the new experience at Laird Lounge.”

David Sheldon, Regent’s Director of Construction, added: “After spending several enjoyable afternoons in the Executive Lounge at Cambridge United, entertaining clients and friends, it became clear that the facilities needed a refresh.

After discussing this with Neil Rowe, I introduced Will Mays from Laird Design and I think everyone would agree that it will come with a modern and vibrant design that reflects the atmosphere of Cambridge United.

“Designed by Will, we were able to connect with our supply partners and the project took off together to create the new Layrd Lounge without any financial impact on the club. I look forward to spending more afternoons in the lounge for next season.”

“The transfer has been absolutely amazing,” said Neil Rowe, head of trade at Cambridge United. “In the planning stage, I had complete confidence in both Layrd Design and Regent Construction that the result would be great, but the end product exceeded my expectations.

“The design process was based on creating a premium space for fans to enjoy special occasions, to entertain customers or simply to upgrade their Matchday experience.
