Franklin’s home regional torch

The annual Franklin Regional Homeland Fire will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. September 29 in the field outside FR Senior High School, 3200 School Road in Murrysville.

The evening will include fire, games, activities for families, food and drinks for sale, club and team apparel, merchandise and performances from the FR squad and the fans. {

The proceeds will benefit individual clubs.

There is no cost to attend.


Fermentation for 5K Brewing in Murrysville

The Murrysville-Export Rotary Club will partner with local breweries Devout, Yellow Bridge and Helltown to host Brew to Brew 5K on October 22 at the Murrysville Community Park.

Proceeds will benefit local charities, with prizes awarded to male and female runners for first place in the 5km run/walk.

Post-race parties will take place at partner breweries with food, discount beer, live music, and giveaways.

International Women’s Meeting

The International Women’s Group will meet at 9:30 a.m. October 7 at Cross Roads Presbyterian Church.

All women in the community are welcome to attend. The show will feature singer Brian Mahan, offering a variety of songs from the 60s and 70s.

The babysitting service at the church has been suspended until further notice.

The events of the fall of the Westmoreland Conservancy

• The Westmoreland Conservancy will host its annual “Autumn Enchanted Forest” walk, 11 a.m. October 15 at the Morosini Preserve.

Search for “fairy houses” and learn the magic of nature. Hikers are encouraged to dress up as their favorite, fairy or woodland creatures, and the event will include a craft to take home.

There is no cost to attend.

• Conservancy Fall Hiking Tour will explore Cooper’s Rock, WVA on October 22nd.

The cruise will depart from Murrysview Shoppes on Route 22 at 8:30 a.m., heading to Cooper’s Rock State Forest which features an old iron furnace, the country’s Civil Protection Corps work, and a variety of rock formations.

The group will stop for lunch on the way back, but hikers are encouraged to bring water and snacks.

“High T” to benefit from Laird Hall

First Presbyterian Church officials in Morrisville will organize a “High Tea” on October 23 to raise money to replace doors in the church’s Laird Hall.

It will be from 1:30 – 4 p.m. at Lamplighter, 6566 William Penn Highway in Salem. Tickets will be available until October 16 at First Presbyterian Church, 3202 North Hills Road in Murrysville.

The tea will include quiche, muffins, cakes and fruit, with a chance to win a variety of items as well as purchase baskets of specialty items.

Norwin Room “Okt-Chamber-Fest”

The Norwin Room will host an “Okt-Chamber-Fest” celebration from 5-8 p.m. on September 29 at Quinn Brewing in North Huntingdon.

The cost is $25 and proceeds will benefit the Chamber’s Scholarship Fund. The event will feature music, light food, raffle prizes and a Stein competition.

Rotary Oktoberfest is getting ready for October 1

The Murrysville-Export Rotary Club will host the annual Oktoberfest on October 1, 4-8 p.m. at the Murrysville Volunteer Fire Company Pavilion, 3235 Sardis Road.

The evening will include German-style food, beer and wine from local food trucks and breweries, a Dirndl and Leiderhusen competition, a Wall of Beer raffle and more, and a raffle on a 1986 Corvette.

The cost is $10 for adults only and includes a $2 food/drink voucher. Families and children are welcome.
