The most beautiful pet beds with minimal decor

When one thinks of a pet bed, “minimalist” and “stylish” are usually not the first words that come to mind. In fact, the bright, wildly patterned and oddly shaped beds that pop up during a quick Google search are the antithesis of the home’s minimalist clean lines and neutral color palette. Furthermore, pet beds tend to be an afterthought in the design, even if you’ve spent months carefully coordinating every single piece in your home, and the process can quickly become cumbersome given the vast amount of options available.

However, according to Ryan White, founder and president of Ryan White Designs and co-founder of Vast Studio, it’s important that your pet furniture is out of your general design language. “As the saying goes, ‘People are like their dogs and their dogs are like their people.’ The same goes for your pet’s bed,” he explains. “Your personal style and taste should resemble any other furniture in your home.”

A little direction can go a long way when you embark on your search. In the case of a minimalist home, your pet’s bed can be that color or pattern you’d like to incorporate, or you can choose a material that matches the mood you’re looking to capture in the room. Fortunately, more and more brands are rolling out simple yet elevated pet beds designed to fit a simple and elegant aesthetic, six of which White has personally approved below.

White Barney loves the modern Boucle Cover bed. If you are not familiar with boucle, it is a textured fabric that looks almost cloudy in appearance. Woven from creamy yarns sourced from Denmark, the Boucle Bed is the ultimate in luxury pet bed. Plus, it’s machine washable and comes in several different sizes.

If you’re looking for a pet bed in a more classic design, White recommends LAY LO’s Black Plaid Dog Bed. The simple mesh pattern fits with a minimal aesthetic, and the soft, yet durable polyester knit fabric is designed to be pit-resistant. The cover can be purchased on its own giving you complete entryway control or with a LAY LO orthopedic mattress.

The Foggy Dog’s Ticking Stripe Dog Bed is a great option if you tend to have a more bohemian vibe. While the brand offers two different mattress options to go with the cover, your best bet may be to buy the coverlet separately and use one or two of your pillows as an insert that the description describes as a good choice for the anxious pet. Plus, for every purchase, The Foggy Dog donates half a pound of dog food to shelters across the U.S.

For the pets that have it all, check out The Linden Oatmeal Medium Dog Day Bed. This isn’t your “normal dog bed,” says White, and it’s easy to see why. Organized like a mid-century modern daybed, it’s simplicity at its best. Basswood is also practical, as the pillowcases are water- and odor-resistant.

tuft and needle

Given that Tuft & Needle is a mattress company for humans, if you are looking for a pet bed that is as comfortable as it is stylish, then you should seriously consider this one. The foam base is similar to a regular Tuft and Needle mattress and the foam pad inside is removable, which is very convenient if you travel a lot by car with your furry friend. If you’re buying a dog and are curious if this bed will work inside a crate, the top cushion is designed to fit most standard crates.

Dozen Dozen

Dusen Dusen originally started as a women’s clothing brand, and expanded into home goods in 2015. Inspired by “fine art and commercial and silly design, plus the brain’s reaction to color, movement and contrast” the bed would be a welcome addition to any home looking to add playful accents and sophisticated. If your pet doesn’t mind sharing, it’s stylish enough to double as a floor pillow, too.

Home and lifestyle brand UnHide recently launched its ultra-thin pet line with the Floof Pet Bed. Made from our signature faux-fur Marshmallow material, this bed is basically a cloud for your furry friend to sleep in all day and night. The neutral beige color works well with minimal décor and the soft, fuzzy finish adds a bit of texture and interest to a simpler space.
