Toray recently created and published an interview video, “Beyond the Material,” a project to reveal the five original values that Ultrasuede® has nurtured over the past 50 years through the voices of the famous creators who use Ultrasuede®. 1) Ultrasuede® as Toray’s flagship brand
A testament to the quality of the materials is the partnership between Toray, Ultrasuede® and ISSEY MIYAKE, which have been working together for nearly 50 years. ISSEY MIYAKE is always at the forefront of fashion and age. Using traditional techniques handed down through generations as well as today’s cutting-edge technologies, the brand designs modern apparel while forging new ways of thinking. Together, they forged a history of design exploration, developing a series of innovative materials and exciting ideas that help us get the most out of it. 2) Expansion through technological innovation
Since its inception in 2015, Bilio, a soft-goods technology design firm based in Berkeley, California, has been creating non-contractual products and services. The company’s work combines materials, design and technology to support a new way of manufacturing for a variety of clients in technology, apparel, footwear, health, automotive and furniture.
They say that “Ultrasuede®, which provides individuality as well as a sense of warmth, comfort, and inviting inviting, provides endless opportunity for design and innovation. Ultrasuede® continues to innovate and expand into new and innovative applications.” When Bilio’s goal of thoughtful, time-consuming innovation is coupled with continuous technological advances in Ultrasuede® and Exploration Showing Unique Values, “Creativity Expands Infinity”.
3) Enhancing our customer value together with Ultrasuede®
While the majority of the furniture market is dominated by industrial products, KOMA produces furniture pieces based on a unique concept: turning unique work into a product.
Their beautiful, high-quality work is made by pursuing functionality as a tool: KOMA furniture pieces can only be made by “sticking to the original”. Ultrasuede® is a material that KOMA came up with through its commitment to real things. They say: “Toray and Kuma can work together with the same level of passion. 4) Enriching society for the next generation
For more than 100 years, Central Saint Martins University of the Arts London (CSM) has been sending famous designers around the world. Students who study fashion at CSM not only learn clothing design and production techniques – they also put their beliefs in social issues into practice. The freshmen’s first creative challenge is the “White Show,” the historic event for the school’s fashion department. Partially plant-derived Ultrasuede® has been selected as a design material for this exhibition since 2018. Students showcase their creativity while working with this pure white sustainable material. Toray supports students at CSM as they take their first steps in the fashion industry. Ultrasuede® will constantly strive to “enrich society for the next generation” with our materials.
